Digitalization of books reviving reading habits-Dr. Umar Saif opens 3rd ITU Book Fair-2017
ITU’s Digital Library Provides Excess to 152,000 ebooks
The digitalization of books through technology is contributing to improve, generate interest and revive the reading habits by making the ebooks available a click away thus facilitating the readers to have 24/7 worldwide access to the libraries. Dr. Umar Saif, founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University of the Punjab, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Advisor to the CM Punjab said while inaugurating the 3rd ITU Book Fair here today.
Dr. Umar Saif said that ITU Punjab has managed to extend access to 152,000 ebooks through ITU digital library in Arfa Software Technology Park Campus. The online access to eBooks covers a wide variety of content across all important subject areas and fields. This huge online source is an opportunity for optimum use by the students and other interested persons. Dr. Umar Saif directed to add more quality eBooks relating to electronics, technology, economy and other important subjects for the benefit of the academia and students.
The visitors were requested to recommend from the displayed books in the fair for placing in the ITU library. Leading publishers and booksellers displayed on various stalls, large number of latest collections, text, reference, science and technology, communication, literature, history and other general books on all academic disciplines and of general interest.
In connection with the library and learning week a talk on “Afkar-e-Taza Se Namood” by Main Iqbal Salahuddin on November 08 Wednesday is being organized. Mian Iqbal Salahuddin is the President of Dabistan-e-Iqbal. His talk will focus on Iqbal’s philosophy of dynamic and creative education for Muslim youth.
