ITU’s Dr. Muhammad Qasim Mehmood receives HEC’s prestigious Best Young Researcher Award
Information Technology University (ITU) of the Punjab proudly announces that Dr. Muhammad Qasim Mehmood, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Electrical Engineering Department, has been honored with the Best Young Researcher Award at the 10th Higher Education Commission (HEC) Research Awards.
The HEC Research Awards are among Pakistan’s most esteemed academic accolades, recognizing outstanding contributions in research, innovation, and scholarly publications. The Best Young Researcher Award specifically acknowledges early-career researchers under the age of 40 who exhibit exceptional promise in advancing research, addressing societal challenges, and enhancing the quality of research in Pakistan.
Dr. Mehmood’s pioneering work in Nano photonics, metamaterials, and applied electromagnetics has significantly contributed to the field. He has published over 90 journal articles and 50 conference papers in prestigious venues. His research has not only advanced scientific understanding but also inspired numerous young researchers in Pakistan through mentorship and community engagement.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Mehmood was previously awarded the 2023 ICO/ICTP Gallieno Denardo Award for his remarkable work in nano-optics and meta-photonics. He is also listed among the top 2% of scientists globally, as per Stanford University’s 2021 and 2022 rankings.
Under Dr. Mehmood’s leadership, ITU’s Electrical Engineering Department has secured significant research grants, including projects funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and international collaborations. His efforts have been instrumental in fostering a vibrant research culture at ITU, promoting interdisciplinary studies, and establishing global partnerships.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Mehmood stated, “I am deeply honored to receive this award. It reflects the collective efforts of my students, colleagues, and the supportive environment at ITU.
