The UNESCO Chair for ICTD at the Information Technology University (ITU), established in April 2018, is focused on promoting the use of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD) in Pakistan. Its mission is to address the critical challenges of accessibility, adoption, sustainability, and policy in the ICT sector, while empowering marginalized communities and fostering inclusive growth.

The Chair is committed to enhancing the quality of ICT education, providing learners with the digital skills necessary to thrive in a modern, technology-driven world. It also promotes cutting-edge research in emerging technologies, such as machine learning, data science, and blockchain, with a focus on supporting sustainable development goals. By engaging with unconnected communities and collaborating with industry stakeholders, the Chair seeks to bridge the digital divide and foster meaningful community engagement. Additionally, the Chair works closely with government bodies to develop effective ICT policies that enhance digital inclusion and governance.

Through these efforts, the UNESCO Chair for ICTD at ITU aims to build a sustainable, inclusive digital future in Pakistan, contributing to both national progress and global development.
