The Department of Economics with Data Sciences at ITU proudly hosted the Philosophy Fest 2024, marking a significant conclusion to the course “Introduction to Philosophy” led by Dr. Abubakr Khan and curated by the EDS 23. The festival was a testament to the creative and intellectual prowess of the students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences featuring an array of engaging activities. Video screenings were a central part of the fest, showcasing students’ perspectives on profound topics such as the Influence of Music, Morality, Consciousness, and Beauty. Syed Muhammad Muawiz from EDS 22 particularly stood out with his video, which garnered top honors for its insightful content. The complexities of inductive reasoning were brought to life through a play performed by the BSEDS 22. The play’s intricate exploration of logical reasoning was met with great enthusiasm and appreciation from the audience. In a lighter vein, a comedy skit humorously depicted the cultural nuances of various Pakistani cities, eliciting laughter and enjoyment from the attendees. Poetry also had its special moment at the fest. Afnan, a student from senior year BSEDS, delivered recitations from the works of Sahir Ludhyanvi and Parveen Shakir. His eloquent performance was highly praised for its depth and delivery. Additionally, the festival featured a remarkable mimicry of Munir Niyazi’s poignant poem “Hamesha Dair Kar Deta Hoon,” which added a humorous dimension to the event’s literary expressions. However, the event’s crowning jewel was the play “Sohni Mahiwal,” performed by students of EDS 23. This enduring folk tale, cherished and passed down through generations, captivated the audience, including the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences & other faculty members. The inaugural Philosophy Fest 2024, envisioned by BSEDS 23 left an indelible mark on all who participated, promising to return the following year with even greater fervor and enthusiasm. It was an event that not only celebrated philosophical thought but also the rich cultural tapestry of Pakistan.
