Dr. Umar received his PhD from the Department of Computer Science, SBASSE, LUMS. His area of research is in intelligent systems often consisting of robots and cameras. Lately he has been working in pilot-less autonomous multi-drone systems and on-board affordable AI. Previously, during the course of over two decades, Umar has founded multiple startups and delivered RnD based innovative solutions for local problems.

- Umar is the founding Regional (Lahore Regional) Contest Director of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) in Pakistan, the most prestigious international programming competition globally. He served as President of FAST-NU alumni body twice. He is also the founding President of STARfALL for two consecutive years focusing on STEM for school children, in affiliation with the First Lego League (FLL).
