Doctor of Philosophy Program in Electrical Engineering

The department of Electrical Engineering offers PhD program in Electrical Engineering. The minimum course work required in the PhD is 18 credit hours or six courses. The candidate will take courses as specified by his/her supervisor. The Faculty Board of Studies (FBS) of EED can also advise on the required courses. The coursework shall be augmented with a 30 credit hours successful doctoral research for the final PhD thesis defense.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree program in Electrical Engineering is designed to prepare students for careers in R&D as well as for conducting independent research at the university level. It is offered exclusively as a full-time program. The candidacy for the PhD program is 5 years (including course work requirements). Exceptions may be granted for candidacy extensions by the competent authority of the University.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Following is the eligibility criteria for admission in PhD in Electrical Engineering program adopted by ITU.

  • M.Phil/MS/Equivalent degree is required in Electrical Engineering or related field (Approved by the Faculty Board of Studies (FBS) of Electrical Engineering Department) from an HEC recognized university
  • For admission into the PhD program, a minimum CGPA 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the Semester System) or First Division (in the Annual System) in M.Phil/MS/Equivalent degree is required.
  • A subject test/interview shall be conducted by the institution in the area of specialization chosen at the PhD level and must be cleared with 70% marks prior to admission for the PhD Program.

“ITU has introduced Graduate Fellowship Program to support Doctoral students in a full time course of study. A graduate student fellow will be given a monthly salary of PKR 75,000.”

All post-graduate applicants will be required to take the ITU Admissions Test for their respective PhD programs.
